Easy tips to apply primer on face and why
What’s a primer used for?
It creates a seamless base for whatever goes on top so everything ends up looking smooth and clean. Plus, it forms a fine layer that blurs away blemishes and uneven skin tones and makes those pores appear much smaller. It also makes your makeup last way longer, keeping the sweat and shine at bay.
Tips and tricks to be a primer pro
Prep before you prime
Your skin must be cleansed and moisturised before the primer goes on and works its magic. Skipping a clean up will trap dirt and sebum inside your pores and clog them!
One primer doesn’t fit all
For oily skin, go for a mattifying primer that’s silicone-based to control shine
For skin that’s on the drier side, opt for a hydrating, water-based primer. This way, your skin won’t look dry and dehydrated when you apply your foundation and you will be safe from any unwanted cracks.
Stick to one primer, with one formula –– do not mix a water-based primer with a silicone one. Mixing formulas will only cause the product to break each other down.
A little goes a long way
Apply a dime-sized amount on your face and neck evenly. This is enough for your base, especially if you’re using a silicone-based primer. Too much of it will lead to unwanted pilling and make any product applied on top slip off. Overdosing on primer will only make you finish it faster!
Ditch the tools
Avoid using a sponge or a brush while blending your primer into your skin. The warmth of your fingers will best allow the product to blend in seamlessly.
Multitask your primer
All face primers can be eye primers if you just know how to use them. Smear your primer over your lids before going in with your eyeshadow. You can also use a primer to clean off any eyeshadow fallout. Apply it on a brush and dab it on to watch it pick up the residual product without ruining the rest of your makeup.
Wait it out
Set your primer for three to five minutes before applying your foundation or concealer.
Pro Tip: Always finish your foundation with a setting powder. This prevents the silicones in your primer and the moisture in your foundation from repelling each other and breaking down.
